Assignment 1.3

In general, there are many issues and challenges in entrepreneurship. For example, he or she must have a vision, a viable product or service, and a solid network. Also, it varies from venture to venture how important human and financial capital is. My first personal challenge is to narrow down what I want to do in the future. Currently, I am interested in many different things, including a health-conscious restaurant, pet boarding/grooming, or a bridal boutique. I believe enrolling in this course is the first step in that direction.

One of our assignments for this course has been to develop a "networking log". Networking is important because contacts can provide a wealth of information. There is no need to reinvent the wheel and these contacts can also help down the road with things like financial and human capital. After some research, I've found two resteraunts that are similair to what I want to start. I have also come across an entrepreneur that started her own bridal store that sells everything but the wedding gown. Finally, I learned of a man in Pittsburgh with a dog day care/boarding/grooming business that is very similar to what I would like to have one day. But, the best tip I've learned so far during this module is to interview local wedding planners to get an idea of what needs aren't being met. The idea is so simple, yet something I had never thought of.
